《大中报》要求澄清婚外情传言几周后 自由党国会议员谭耕宣布不再寻求连任

“经过仔细考虑我决定我将重心转向家庭和其他领域的工作。 我已向组织报告了我的决定，不再参加秋季大选。”

"After much consideration I have come to conclusion that time has now come to spend more time with family and pursue other careers. I have notified the Whip that I will not run for re-election in the fall. "

在一则广为流传的“脸书”张贴中，Don Valley North选区的自由党议员谭耕宣布他将不再参选今年秋季的联邦大选。在宣布退选的同时，谭议员对其在任职期间总理特鲁多，他的妻子和选民们对他提供的帮助和支持表示感谢。大多伦多地区数家媒体报道了谭议员的决定。设址渥太华，专门报道加国国会新闻的”山庄时报“也同时对此进行报道，其标题称：”多伦多国会议员新手谭耕宣布退选秋季联邦大选。”

In a widely circulated Facebook post, Geng Tan, MP for Don Valley North, announced that he will not run for a re-election in the fall. He thanked PM Justine Trudeau, his wife, staff and constituents for their support during his parliamentary career. The announcement is carried by several news outlets in GTA. "Rookie GTA Liberal MP Tan quits as Liberal candidate for the fall election." The Hill Times, Ottawa based newspaper covering the Parliament of Canada, reported.



2018年1月，《环球邮报》报道称谭耕议员曾为面临欺诈指控的华社商人联系搭桥，亲手为其向加国驻北京大使馆递交信件。同年年底，谭耕再次获得提名，成为2019年联邦大选自由党候选人。谭耕做出退选决定之时，正值民调显示自由党已逐渐拉近与保守党差距，且在兰万灵丑闻之后重获选民信任之际。

In Jan 2018, the Globe reported that Mr. Tan acted as intermediary for a businessman in the Chinese community facing fraud charges, hand-delivering a letter to a top official at the Canadian embassy in Beijing on behalf of him.  At the end of the year, Tan was nominated as the Liberals’ candidate for the riding in the 2019 fall election. The announcement came as a new poll suggests that the Liberals are closing the gap between the Conservatives and that the party has started recovering after SNC-Lavalin affair. 



一则广为流传的社区传言称谭耕议员卷入婚外情并生育一女。《大中报》于5月16日发表文章，要求谭耕议员对这一婚外情传言明确回答，但谭议员至今未对此做出表态，即未承认，也未否认这一传言。

Tan faced a widely circulated rumour that he had engaged in an extramarital affair that resulted in a female child. Chinese News published an article on May 16th, seeking Mr. Tan’s response to the alleged affair.  Tan has neither admitted nor denied it.

《大中报》于5月21日将该文电邮给总理办公室新闻秘书Amreet Kaur, 要求总理办公室帮忙澄清谭的婚外情和私生子问题。这一电邮也同时发给了加国操守办公室和自由党总部。

Chinese News sent the article through an email to Amreet Kaur, the press secretary of PMO, on May 21st, seeking their clarification over the matter. The email was also sent to the Ethics Commissioner and the Liberal Party of Canada.



《大中报》在电邮中指出：“社区人士普遍认为一名国会议员应以高道德标准约束自己，议员婚外情行为有损于自由党一向推崇的家庭价值观。谭耕议员对公众质询的反应令人失望，其冷漠只能让婚外情的流言猜测升级，让谭耕议员名声受损，公众信任度降低，同时也会影响到那名没有父亲的孩子的身心健康。

“They (most community members) believe that a MP should set up higher moral standards and that an MP’s adultery actions erodes family values advocated by the Liberal party. Mr. Tan’s reactions to the public inquires are disappointing. It has only fueled the public’s speculations over the alleged affair, putting him under a growing cloud of suspicion and undermining public trust over the elected MP.  It would also put the fatherless child at a serious risk of harm,”

6月16日，谭议员决定不再参加2019联邦大选。

On June 16th, Tan announced that he will not to run for the fall election.
